Description
Save the date for our Community of Practice session on October 27th at 16:00 pm CET!
Are you interested in learning more about how to finance landscape restoration? How do you generate the money to fund restoration activities? Payment for ecosystem service schemes (PES), carbon projects, biobanking, and biodiversity offsetting initiatives are all methods to cover the expenses of landscape restoration.
While there is widespread excitement about these methods, landscape practitioners face several challenges when applying them in practice. In this Community of Practice session, we will exchange stories and explore the different economic tools that you can implement to sustain landscape restoration initiatives.
Speakers from the field:
Martha “Pati” Ruiz Corzo is co-founder of the restoration project Grupo Ecologico Sierra Gorda (GESG) and received multiple awards for her work, most recently the 2018 Innovators for the Americas Prize. During this session, she will speak about the carbon payment model implemented in the Sierra Gorda landscape, how it works and what lessons GESG has learned so far.
Silvia Scozzafava is an ecologist, specialising in enhancing the natural and social capital of mountain areas and conserving ecological and cultural heritage. For the past 16 years, she has worked as a conservation officer in protected areas. She is now involved in the foresta modello valle aterno restoration project, which is based on a multi-stakeholder approach. During this Community of Practice session, she will present Aichi Obiettivo 20., a biochar-based carbon credit startup she founded in 2019, and her key learnings from recent years.
