Description

Learn how Bountiful uses satellite imagery to improve crop yield forecasts and what it might mean for the future of agriculture.

Cleantech Live is a new series of virtual events designed specifically for people who believe solving climate change is both urgent and possible and want to be a part of the solution. Solving the climate crisis is going to require massive collaboration on a global scale. As "Climate Solutionists," we're motivated by the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to that effort.

The goal of Cleantech Live is to provide insight into promising new climate solutions, support the people and organizations behind them, and create a deeper connection with fellow Solutionists. Cleantech Live is different than most online events because it's centered around interaction. Instead of staring idly at the screen for an hour, you'll have the opportunity to ask questions, share insights, and directly engage in a constructive conversation with the other bright minds who join us. And every Cleantech Live we'll make time at the end for getting to know each other as individuals. Because we know that's when the magic of true and lasting connection happens — and who couldn't use a bit more connection these days.

Agriculture is an often overlooked sector of our economy when it comes to fighting climate change. But it's also the single largest source of emissions that can go beyond zero emissions to achieve negative emissions — making it a massive opportunity worthy of more attention. In this event Arian Aghajanzadeh will share about why our ability to forecast crop yields is the holy grail of cracking Ag sustainability.

You'll learn about:

  • The challenges we face and why Ag sustainability has been getting little attention over the years
  • How his company is using satellite imagery to quantify and implement sustainable farming practices
  • The next big thing in Ag sustainability, regenerative agriculture

About the speaker:

Arian Aghajanzadeh is Bountiful’s head of sustainability and a former water and energy researcher at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Arian believes that our sustainable future will not be possible without the agricultural industry, and that is why he has dedicated his career to turning our food system from the single largest emitter of carbon to the single largest carbon sink.

About the sponsor:

Bountiful is an agriculture data and analytics company that specializes in yield forecasting for high value and specialty crops. They use satellite imagery, climate and weather data, and machine learning to forecast yield with 10% error or better. They're a team of experts in agriculture, data science, remote sensing, and engineering, from NASA, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, University of California, Berkeley, California Institute of Technology and Pennsylvania State University.
