Description

This year's twilight Conference will provide an inspiring atmosphere for learning and networking with like-minded people in the Agricultural Industry.

Grant Pontifex – Grant is a 2018 Nuffield Scholar who studied improving soil health with manure and cover cropping. Grant and his family operate Pontifex Farming between properties based at Paskeville and on Kangaroo Island, managing a 7000ha grain enterprise. Grant will share his Nuffield experience, his family's journey to improve soil health by the use of chicken manure as the primary source of fertiliser and reducing insecticide and fungicide use.

Dr. Rick Llewellyn – Dr. Llewellyn is the Senior Principal Research Scientist for Agricultural Systems at the CSIRO. He will discuss the application and benefits of virtual livestock fencing in a mixed farming enterprise and explore the value of precision grazing and utilising rotational grazing of pastures without physical infrastructure.

Greg Butler - Greg, SANTFAs Research and Development Officer, will speak about seed priming to improve crop establishment on nonwetting sands and commercial pre-emptive flame retardants coming to market. Greg will also share an update on Aquatill and discuss ammonia and urea production from renewable hydrogen.

Shane Phillips – Shane is a Research Agronomist for Landmark based in Loxton and Berri. For the past 18 years Shane has been working on biological seed coatings that have shown to improve nitrogen fixation, crop biomass and yield in low rainfall, low fertility environments.

Tara Hindson – Tara operates a large, diverse livestock and cropping family farming business in the Western Wimmera in Victoria. In 2015 Tara undertook a Peter Olsen Fellowship examining composting pig manure and straw as an alternative fertiliser source. This along with diverse rotations has helped them reduce costs while maintaining yield, therefore increasing profit.

Scott Clark – Scott applies conservation farming techniques and the latest technology to his family's property at Jamestown. Zero till controlled traffic and harvesting with a stripper front are integrated to form the backbone of a resilient and profitable farming system that assists Scott to harness available soil moisture.

Brendan Williams - After many years involved in the agricultural industry Brendan created the corporate farm Williams Smith near Bendigo in Victoria. Brendan will offer insights into his farming philosophy and the technology and techniques he uses. Utilising harvest weed seed management, optical sense spot spraying technology and making hay under controlled traffic.
