Description

ICARDA and the Uzbek MoA are pleased to announce a webinar to discuss the outcomes of a new book on the political economy of the wheat sector in Uzbekistan: seed systems, varietal adoption, and impacts.

The book, co-authored by national and international seed system analysis experts such as Dr. Zewdie Bishaw, Dr. Yigezu A. Yigezu, Dr. Aziz Nurbekov, Dr. Abdoul Aziz Niane, and Dr. Aziz Karimov, focuses on the seed value chain in Uzbekistan’s wheat sector. The book covers the continuum between wheat variety development, seed production, and marketing to varietal adoption and impacts and discusses important questions about the Uzbek seed sector.

In the virtual webinar on November 22, 2021, the book authors will present the findings of their studies to inform a Q&A session to debate critical and constructive points of view on the strengths, limitations, and gaps in the book, as well as possible suggestions for incorporation in the final planned version. The webinar also aims to establish an agreement on the key steps needed by various stakeholders and actors to make the seed sector in Uzbekistan efficient, inclusive, and equitable.
