Applicants should submit curriculum vitae, summaries of career goals and contact information for three references.


  • A Doctorate in Animal Science, or closely related field.
  • The equivalent of two years’ experience in Extension, teaching, research or similar work is preferred.
  • Expertise in the relationship between production of livestock and life cycle assessments or broader sustainability challenges of the livestock industries.
  • The successful applicant must have demonstrated interest and/or expertise in working with livestock producers, industry consultants, allied industry.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with interest and expertise in multiple livestock species.
  • Understanding of the job responsibilities of an Extension Specialist is required, along with adequate training to conduct, interpret and publish translational research with direct application to the livestock industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with people, engage in a systems approach to problem solving, utilize a variety of modern education delivery and research methods, and a willingness to respond to policy, administration and supervision.
  • Applicant must be proficient in oral and written communications and must have interpersonal relations skills to work closely with the livestock industry.
  • Computer proficiency is required.


  • Develop a nationally recognized program that provides leadership and coordination for Extension educational programs in livestock management associated with a sustainable food supply.
  • Primary programming responsibilities will focus on improving efficiency and financial stability in the production of livestock within the Texas production environment.
  • Secondary programming responsibilities will focus on ecosystem services, greenhouse gas emissions, upcycling of nutrients, and regenerative agriculture with primary emphasis on food animal livestock systems.
  • Development of applied research or modeling research, result demonstrations, tours, workshops and field days are expected.
  • Develop an area of expertise in Animal Science Extension and demonstrate scholarly activity in related work.
  • Provide technical expertise, training, teaching materials and programming support for county Extension agents, specialists, clientele and organizations across the state.
  • Work both individually and as a team member in planning, executing and evaluating result demonstration tours, field days and seminars.
  • Develop and/or maintain close communication strategies with the Texas livestock industry through associations, organizations, cooperatives and individual producers

Administrative Relationships:

The individual selected will be a member of the faculty in the Department of Animal Science and will respond to Extension Administration through the Department Head and Associate Department Head for Extension.

The successful candidate will cooperate with regional program leaders for agriculture and natural resources, district Extension administrators, resident directors of research, county Extension agents, other specialists and researchers in planning, conducting and evaluating educational programs and work closely with Extension beef and livestock specialists and with Texas A&M AgriLife Research faculty conducting research related to cattle management, herd health, environmental issues, etc.

The potential exists to develop linkages with Texas A&M Uniersity System institutions, Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Noble Research Institute.
