The story

In collaboration with the Forest Department of the Indian Government, local communities planted 1000 Indigenous fruit trees in Chhattisgarh, Central India.

The local community members received training on how and where to best plant the trees to have the highest yields as well as restore the soil and retain the water.

Most of the fruit trees were planted along bunds and cattle proof trenches and some were stored in a nursery to be distributed to other villages later.

“Due to the development of nursery in the village, our group and its people got employment. Mahua, jackfruit, Amla and Munga (Drumstick) plants have been distributed through the nursery in our village. Now we are planting vegetables in the nursery itself.” – Sunderi Bai, SHG Member, Kabripathra Village
