The story

At a crucial moment for sustainability and rural development, the association AlVelAl together with the Town Council of Moratalla, is holding its VI AlVelAl Colloquium on the 8th and 9th of November in this municipality. A meeting that will bring together researchers, farmers and professionals from the sector to explore the transformative potential of aromatic plants in landscape restoration and sustainable development.

Under the inspiring title ‘Aromatics: Innovation and Sustainability for Landscape Restoration’, the colloquium will provide a unique platform to examine how aromatic plants can serve as a driver of change in several dimensions. From soil regeneration to biodiversity enhancement, to the creation of economic opportunities and the promotion of rural tourism.

Focusing on key issues related to the use of these plants in regenerative agriculture for the creation of integrated productive agro-ecosystems and their role in improving the environment, tourism and the rural economy.

The strategic use of aromatic plants not only enriches the landscape, but also contributes to the improvement of ecosystems. Benefits include increasing biodiversity, creating habitats for pollinators, soil fixation and erosion prevention. In addition, their integration into agriculture can generate additional income for producers and offer new employment opportunities through processing and marketing. In the field of tourism, aromatic plants promise a unique and sustainable experience for all five senses, a tourist attraction that stimulates the local economy.

The setting for this VI AlVelAl Colloquium ‘Aromatics: Innovation and Sustainability for Landscape Restoration’ will be Moratalla, a town that has demonstrated its commitment to sustainability through the ‘Territorio Lavanda’ project. This innovative project seeks to revitalise the municipality’s districts through the cultivation of lavender and other aromatic plants, establishing an exemplary model of sustainable development and tourism that combines innovation, sustainability and tourism for the transformation of the territory.

AlVelAl’s commitment to the aromatic herbs sector

The VI Colloquium coincides with the strong commitment that AlVelAl is making to the aromatic plants sector as a driver of biodiversity and economic development in the agricultural estates associated with the organisation. Through the Essences Fund, AlVelAl is promoting the planting of aromatic plants, such as lavender, rosemary and thyme, on these farms, fostering a model of regenerative agriculture that contributes to soil improvement, water catchment and biodiversity conservation.

In addition, AlVelAl is about to launch its new business case Esencias del Paisaje, which will offer essential oils, infusions and spices produced under regenerative agricultural management of water, soil and biodiversity. This project aims not only to enhance the value of local products, but also to demonstrate the potential of aromatic plants as a sustainable and environmentally friendly source of income.

The registration period to participate in the VI AlVelAl Colloquium is now open until 4 November. Those interested in attending can register by sending an email to info@alvelal.es. This event is a unique opportunity to learn from experts, share experiences and explore new ways to boost rural development through the cultivation and use of aromatic plants. A crop that can be key to a more sustainable and prosperous future in rural areas.
