The story

The Bavianskloof is South Africa’s largest wilderness area and a biodiversity hotspot home to unique animals and plants. The landscape is remote and rugged, and despite the characteristic grit and creativity of the people living in this region, recent challenges became too big to face alone.

For more than five years a collection of local landowners, NGOs, researchers and impact organisations have been working together. With a community-driven approach, this collective develop solutions that restore degraded land on a large-scale while generating an income for the people that live within the Baviaanskloof.
