The story

Tourism can be a crucial part of nature conservation and regeneration. In The Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve, the aim of the local alliance has been to develop tourism that protects and enhances the natural heritage of the region. That means tourism with only a positive impact, that involves the local community and that values cultural knowledge. And now, in a first for North America, the UNESCO Biosphere of Sierra Gorda has become the first National Park in Mexico to join the EarthCheck Sustainable Destinations program.

The EarthCheck Sustainable Destinations Program is a worldwide network of destinations that aim to achieve world-leading sustainability outcomes. Read more about the program and what this means for The Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve here: Mexico’s UNESCO Biosphere of Sierra Gorda joins the EarthCheck Sustainable Destinations program.
